There is no way I like her. I didn't like her before, and I certainly don't like
how she got around the system to get out of jail. She thinks that she is above
the law, just because she is rich and famous. I really hate people like that.
Quote by Shadowdawnwell yes, parents
are ignorant alot of the time. i bet they don't even know what their kids watch
when they're not around.. but on the case of the teacher, i don't think she
should be procecuted at all. let alone 40rs! thats madness! People who kill
people get off at 25, why on earth should that be concidered a worse offence?
geeez....
That's the way that this country's judicial system
works, it seems. Why would Amero be facing 40 years in prison? Because she was
convicted of four counts of "risk of injury to a minor." Since this
carries a maximum sentence of 10 years, 4 counts * 10 years = 40 years. What is
also ridiculous is that the school system where she was working does not get any
blame for this incident. Shouldn't the school have filtered those sites?
Shouldn't the school have updated their software to prevent this from happening?
Considering that she was tech-illiterate, there would have been no way for her
to get into the porn sites (if the school had been paying attention to their
computers).
If you have never heard of this case, here is a summary of the events leading to
the conviction:
In October 2004, substitute teacher Julie Amero finds out that porn pop-ups are
showing up, and she is unable to stop it. Earlier, she was told by an IT guy to
not turn off the computer (which she does not know how to). She tries to prevent
the children from looking at the porn-filled monitor and asks for help from
others. After complaints from parents, Amero is arrested for "risk of
injury to a minor." She maintains her innocence, but the judge and the jury
do not see it her way. She is guilty because of evidence that shows that Amero
went into the porn websites. They neglect to consider the fact that the evidence
does not show whether if the websites came from going directly there or from
pop-ups. She is going to be sentenced on March 29 and she could possibly be
given a 40-year sentence. Do you think that she is guilty? Do you think that she
deserves going to prison?
I really believe that she is innocent. The so-called evidence that the
prosecution gave does not show that she deliberately went into porn websites.
Some say that she didn't do anything to prevent this from being exposed to the
children, but they neglect to consider that she might have panicked. Should some
be convicted for panicking or being tech-illiterate? I don't think so.
----- UPDATE: Amero's sentencing has been moved
to April 26. This would be the second
time in March that her sentencing has been moved.
----- UPDATE 2: Amero's sentencing has been
moved (again) to May 18.
----- UPDATE 3: Amero's sentencing has been
moved (yet again) to June 6.
----- UPDATE 4: After months of delay, the
Amero's sentence has been overturned and has been given a new trial. She has
pleaded not guilty.
I'm having problems with my userpage content. The problem is that any Japanese
characters (kanji, hiragana, katakana) show up as question marks. This problem
started several weeks ago (shortly after the site went back online) and never
occured before. When I preview the content (in the Userpage Content menu), there
is no problem; however, if I update it, the problem occurs. How can this be
fixed?
It has been around five years since the terrorists changed the world. In five
years, so much has changed, but instead of focusing on what has happened since
9/11, let's focus on what you were doing on that day. How did you feel when the
terrorists flew those planes into the towers and the pentagon? How did you feel
after the towers fell?
I remember I was in Cebu, Philippines going through another somber occsion. I
was in a room in my relative's house, enjoying the few moments I had in the
Philippines. Then, I received a call from my uncle in Los Angeles. He told me to
watch CNN. I went down to see what was happening and I saw the towers burning.
Soon after, I saw the second tower being hit. I was shocked and didn't know what
to think. My sister was crying when she saw this scene. I ended up staying up at
3-4 in the morning. I couldn't sleep after that because I was so shocked. My
flight going back to the US was cancelled and I ended up leaving three days
after my original flight, hoping nothing would happen.
Many people see the US as a superpower; these people believe that the US is the
best at everything. However, US education does not show that at all. In the 60s,
the US decided to "dumb down" the school system in order to "stop
discrimination." Unfortunately, we have paid the price for this. The US
falls behind many countries when compared to other countries in testing. The US
school system, compared to other countries, is a joke. Even several developing
countries have a better system then us.
What are your thoughts about this? Do you think something should be done about
this? If so, what needs to be done?
As you know, Avian Flu can only be transmitted through birds, but it is
predicted to be the cause of the next pandemic in the next few years. If this
were to ever happen, what would you do if you found out if Avian Flu (H5N1
Virus) was transmissible through humans? How would you change your lifestyle, if
you would?
Quote by someweirdguyCartoon Network
has nothing to do with the dubbing of the voices, it's the company that licensed
it. Cartoon Network is just playing what's been
made.
That's right. CN only plays it on T.V. If you want to complain about sumthing,
than make all complaints towards Viz who got the rights to Bleach, voice-overs
and all...
IMO, VIZ doing the voice-overs and everything for Bleach is kind of a bad thing.
I never really liked VIZ's choice of voice-actors for the anime, but bleh that's
my opinion. The licensing of the anime was bound to happen...
LONG LIVE BLEACH!
That is true, but there is another problem:
how much of Bleach will be cut because of blood and other stuff. That seems to
be another problem. However, this shouldn't be a huge problem since it will be
showing on Adult Swim.

As some of you might know, the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy is starting on
Friday. What are your thoughts about the winter (or summer) olympics? Are you
planning to go to Torino to watch the olympics, watch it on TV, or not watch it
at all? What sports in the winter olympics do you like?
Konnichi wa minna!
For those who don't know me, I am KamikazeKoga, the founder and one of the
captains (Administrator) of the Soul Society-Shinigami Group.
Since I am back from my long hiatus, I am hoping to get you shinigami to being
more active in the group, since this group doesn't seem very lively. To do this,
I am hoping to start a contest during the next several months. This is just
preliminary, so be sure to pay attention to future announcements.
In remember in the past (in the US), I never heard anyone talking about anime. I
don't even remember hearing the word until the Pokemon seizure incident. Some
people in the news (though I don't remember this) made anime a bad TV program.
That didn't affect anime a lot; in fact, I believe that anime wouldn't have been
that popular if the Pokemon incident didn't occur. Even 4 years ago, when I
started High School, the Anime Club was just created in my school. Back then,
there was practically no one that knew what anime was (with the exception of
Digimon and Pokemon, which already lost its popularity in my school). This
changed drastically during the past 4 years and now, almost everyone knows what
anime is. It's not just that; many people in my school watch more anime than
American cartoons (with some exceptions). That's just one example of how anime
popularity has grown.
What are your (or your classmate's) thoughts about Physical Education in school,
its teachers, and its rules?
In school today (and basically every Wednesday), many people were complaining
about the Phys Ed teachers in our schools and how they made us run outside in
temperatures around 35 degrees (the rule in our school says that we don't run
outside below 40 degrees). Even during other days, people complain because of
the stern rules Phys Ed teachers enforce. They act like Phys Ed is more
important than any other class in our school. There has even been articles in my
school newspaper that complained about the teachers. In general, many of us joke
about how Phys Ed teachers (who are seen as dumb) went to "Gym Teacher
School" to do what they do now.
According to the Japanese .Hack
website and dothackers, there is
going to be a new .Hack series based on the new .Hack//GU games. The new .Hack
series is called .Hack//Roots. It will
start showing April 5th (in TV Tokyo) and will last 26 episodes.
During Jump Festa 2006, the new season of Digimon was announced. The name for
the new season is Digimon Savers and almost nothing else is known about the new
season. There are some pictures here
of drawings of the new characters (shown in V-Jump).
What do you think this season is going to be about? Would you watch it when it
starts showing in Japan or the US?
For those .Hack fans, you might know that the day when the Pluto's Kiss incident
occured. For those who don't know what the Pluto's Kiss incident is, here is
what happened:
On December 24, 2005, a 10-year-old kid
launched a virus that would shut down the whole Internet. Anything connected to
the Internet crashed.
Most of us here has experienced viruses one time or another. But, what you might
have experienced is nothing compared to what people might have faced that day.
Do you think this type of event could happen? When do you think it might
occur?
Though this is fiction and though I wish this never happens, I do think this
will occur eventually. It is already happening, though in a small scale. I don't
think it won't happen in the next couple of years, but it would be freaky if an
event like this occured the same day Pluto's Kiss occured.
I am a Christian, but I believe in both of these theories. I would say that God
created this universe with the Big Bang. God also created life on Earth and
probably other planets. Then, evolution took over and brought us to where we are
today.
I have a lot of anime shirts, so sometimes, I wear them during school or
anywhere else. Nowadays, it's not a big deal to wear them. However, I only wear
them every several days. It would be too much if I were to wear them everyday.
A long time ago before the Internet became widely available, people went to the
mall to buy what they wanted. But now, people are now staying at home, shopping
in the Internet. Do you prefer to shop in the mall or in the Internet?
